A West Rusk sophomore football player was killed in a one-vehicle accident on Friday, 6 miles northwest of Henderson in Rusk County.
Adarian Parker, 16, of Henderson, was driving a 2002 Ford Expedition traveling southeast on Texas Highway 323, Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Jean Dark said.
The investigating trooper’s report stated that the vehicle might have had some malfunction, Trooper Dark said.
Parker, the driver, lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway striking a tree, coming to rest facing west in the roadway, she said.
Justice of the Peace Joe Sorrells pronounced Parker dead at the scene.
A passenger, London Martin, 15, was released from the hospital with minor injuries, according to West Rusk Athletic Director and Head Football Coach John Frazier
“While we are very thankful that London is OK, our hearts are broken for the loss of a sweet gentle giant,” Frazier said. “We will miss Adarian’s sweet smile and upbeat personality. Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved in this tragic situation.”
Parker was set to begin his first season with the West Rusk Raider varsity football team as a lineman.
