The Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies and Apaches hit the hardwood today in the Sleep Inn & Suites Men’s & Women’s Basketball Classic at Wagstaff Gymnasium.
The Apache Ladies enter with a 3-0 mark after receiving a forfeit from Arkansas Baptist, while the Apaches are 3-1.
The Apache Ladies play at 4 p.m. today against No. 8 Weatherford. Later, the Apaches play Northwestern State JV at 8 p.m.
Other games today include Jacksonville women vs. Collin County (2 p.m.) and Kilgore men vs. Weatherford (6 p.m.)
Also, DeAndre Harris, who played for the Apaches last year, will not be back with the team, Dr. Tim Drain, TJC athletic director said.
Harris will sit out this season and has signed with the University of North Texas. The Milwaukee native will have three-years of eligibility remaining, Drain said.
“He had some discipline issues and heath issues that forced him to make a decision on whether to burn a year of eligibility,” Drain said via text. “He decided it’s in his best interest to not play this year and save three years for the next level.”
The Classic continues on Saturday. The Apache Ladies meet Collin County at 3 p.m., followed by the Apaches taking on Weatherford at 5 p.m.
