Softball deadline on Monday

USA Softball of Texas District 25 is taking over the slow pitch softball program in the Tyler area and the deadline to register is Monday, Van Jordan, USA Softball of Texas Commissioner said.

He said, “Since the middle of the 1970s, the City of Tyler Parks and Recreation has programmed the Adult Slow Pitch Softball Program.”



Jordan added, the league has been sanctioned by the Amateur Softball Association, which recently re-branded itself as USA Softball.

USA Softball has entered into an agreement with the City of Tyler to lease the softball fields at Lindsey Park and administrate league and tournament play, Jordan said.

“We are honored to provide Slow Pitch Softball opportunities to the Citizens of East Texas,” Jordan noted. “The City of Tyler has done an outstanding job providing an activity that is healthy and very enjoyable. We hope to continue their success,”

The 2017 league sign-up deadline is Monday.

Leagues offered are Men’s Open, Men’s Industrial, Men’s Church, Men’s Over 50, Co-Ed Church, Co-Ed Open and Women’s Open.

The Coach’s meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Rose Garden’s Rose Room.

League begins March 20 with all games being played at Lindsey Park, 12557 Spur 364 in Tyler.

USA Softball of Texas is a volunteer organization that is governed by a board of softball veterans – Jordan (Commissioner) and Patrick Dalton ( Deputy Commissioner, I.T. Coordinator). Deputy Commissioners include Jodi Booth, Myles Miller and Chad Chadwick. Umpire Liaisons include Jeff Mekalip, Marvin Ross and Allen Steele.
