Robert E. Lee graduate Matt Flynn is trending on Twitter this morning. The reason? The former Lee, LSU and Green Bay Packers quarterback was cut by the New England Patriots this morning. The Patriots signed Flynn after the impending suspension of Tom Brady for his alleged “Deflategate” activities was announced.
At the time, the Patriots had only Brady and a second-year quarterback who has never thrown an NFL pass on their roster at quarterback. Flynn has been dealing with a hamstring injury which had him relegated to the non-football-injury list. He had not practiced yet with the Patriots.
Flynn won state high school and NCAA championships as a starting QB, and was Aaron Rodgers’ backup on a Packers team that won a Super Bowl. ESPN reports that Flynn has made 18 million dollars throughout his NFL career.
