Robert E. Lee can clinch third place in District 12-5A basketball, but must win its remaining league games, both of them away from home.

First up for the Red Raiders (19-9, 6-0) is Rockwall-Heath. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rockwall-Heath High School. Heath (12-17, 1-8) has just a single district success. The Red Raiders used a dominant rebounding advantage to defeat the Hawks 64-49 in the team’s first meeting.

The Lady Raiders play their season finale Tuesday against Heath at the REL Varsity Gymnasium. It is the final high school game for Lee senior Ciara Johnson, who has averaged double figures since returning to the team in the second half of the district season.

The Lee girls (13-19, 3-8) defeated Rockwall-Heath (8-18, 1-10) 51-30 in their first meeting. Tipoff is 7 p.m.

Soccer

Longtime soccer rivals Robert E. Lee and Longview meet for the first time Tuesday in two important district games.

For the girls, both the Lady Raiders and Lady Lobos are looking for their first district points after both were shutout in the league openers. For the boys, the winner of the Red Raiders and Lobos would move into first place in the standings after two games.

The Lady Raiders (0-1, 0 pts District 12-5A) and Lady Lobos (0-1, 0 pts) kick off at 7 p.m. Tuesday the Lee High School Soccer Field. The two teams finished 1-2 in the district last year with Longview edging out Lee, despite the Lady Raiders defeating the Lobos in both meetings.

The Red Raiders and Lobos will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lobo Stadium in Longview.

Lee (1-0, 3 pts) split with Longview last year and defeated the Lobos in the playoffs. Longview (1-0, 3 pts) provided an emphatic 3-0 victory over Mesquite in its district opener. Lee topped Rockwall-Heath 2-0 in its district starter with two goals from Lumi Kaba.

Signings

Robert E. Lee head football coach and athletic coordinator, Darrell Piske, expects to have eight players signing letters of intent Wednesday on National Signing Day. It is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Suddenlink Communications Field House on the Lee High School campus.

Normally just known for football, Piske said Lee signees will come from four sports.

Lee running back LaQuintas Wallace and offensive lineman Ian Chase will sign with Tyler Junior College, while kicker Lumi Kaba had an official visit with North Texas on Saturday.

Jay Roberson will sign a track scholarship to Sam Houston State with baseball standout Blake Korthauer to join teammate Zach Flanagan at Howard Junior College.

In soccer, Lee centerback Julia Harrison will sign with St. Edward’s University with forward Brooke Johnston staying closer to home and signing with TJC.

Finally, Alexis Crowder joins teammate Mallory Kuechle as REL volleyball players to continue their careers in college. Kuechle has already signed with Texas Woman’s University and now Crowder will sign with Richland College.
