JASPER – Kellian Weathered scored twice on the ground and hauled in a touchdown pass, and the Jasper Bulldogs pulled away with a big second quarter en route to a 41-17 win over the Tatum Eagles.

Jasper (6-2, 2-0) opened the scoring with an interception return for a touchdown by Ty Ellis just 1:16 into the contest, but the Eagles (6-3, 2-1) rebounded quickly when OB Jones hit Jachais Jenkins on a 79-yard scoring toss on Tatum’s next play from scrimmage to tie things at 7-7.

Leontay Sells threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Lorenzo Thomas with 5:51 to play in the opening stanza to cap an 11-play, 67-yard drive, but Tatum once again answered – this time using a 29-yard field goal by Horatio Cadena to make it a 14-10 contest with 19 seconds left in the opening quarter.

Jasper outscored the Eagles 21-7 in the second frame, using scoring runs of 31 and 49 yards by Weathered and a 33-yard TD pass from Sells to Weathered to take control of things.

Tatum’s Cedric White scored on a 63-yard run in the second quarter, but the Eagles trailed 35-17 at the break.

Decorrian Holmes scored the lone points of the second half on a 43-yard run with 9:27 to play in the third to give Jasper the final total of 41-17.

Tatum is idle on Friday. Jasper hosts Huntington.
