Houston Lutheran South stops Brook Hill in state baseball championship

The Guard fell behind in the second inning and could never catch up as Brook Hill dropped a 7-3 decision to Houston Lutheran South on Wednesday in the TAPPS Division II state baseball championship game in Crosby.
Brook Hill (19-8) was shooting for its fourth state championship.
Lutheran South (31-7) took a 2-0 lead in the first before the Guard tied the game up in the top of the second. However, the Pioneers scored four runs in the second.
Campbell Fletcher belted a home run for Brook Hill, while Carson Richards added a double. Jake Shaffer had a single. Richards also had an RBI with Fletcher scoring two runs and Shaffer adding a third.
Brook Hill was hurt by five errors.
Mason Kelley started on the mound for the Guard, allowing six hits and seven runs, but only three were earned. He had two strikeouts and three walks. Tyler Overbeek threw 1/3 of an inning, while Connor Carson finished the game by tossing 2 2/3 innings, allowing a hit while striking out one and walking two. Overbeek did not allow a hit and walked one.
Luke Harrison threw a complete game for the Pioneers, allowing three hits and three runs, two of which were earned. He struck out seven and walked two.
Jared Chambers and Owen Hill led Lutheran South with two hits (double, single) and two RBIs. Evan Buisson, Ethan McDonald and Kevin Roebelen added singles. Robebelen had an RBI.
