BULLARD — Gilmer played Katy-Barr-the-door and Walker proved a rumbling runner Friday night at Panther Stadium as the Buckeyes stopped the Bullard Panthers 57-39 in a District 16-3A ode to offense.
Gilmer quarterback Tanner Barr hoofed for 123 yards and a TD on only 10 deliveries, while completing eight of 17 heaves for 161 yards and a touchdown.
Meantime, teammate Josh Walker waltzed to two rushing TDs and tallied another by snagging a 74-yard screen pass from Barr.
Gilmer never trailed after springing a 15-0 lead with two big bangs in the game’s first 1:43 — Kris Boyd’s 80-yard flight on the first play from scrimmage and Devondrick Dixon’s 40-yard interception return off a pass from Colton Mebane.
After Gilmer lead 29-17 at twirling time, Bullard pulled to within 43-39 with 10:16 left when Holden Bryant returned an interception 30 yards off Barr.
Brentavian Henderson legged two TDs while Mebane flung for 130 yards and a touchdown.
Gilmer (8-1, 5-0) now hosts Kilgore Friday for the district title while Bullard drops to 6-3 and 2-3 in district.
