5 All Saints students sign letters to colleges

There were a few tears, along with lots of laughs and smiles as five All Saints Episcopal School athletes signed their commitment letters during a signing ceremony Monday at the Bruce G. Brookshire Competition Gym.
Signing letters were Haley Henson (softball, University of Dallas), Raul Martinez (baseball, LeTourneau University), Sullivan “Sully” McCreery (baseball, Sewanee: The University of the South), Samantha Morgan (soccer, Sewanee: The University of the South) and Jordan Smith (Regal Blue Pom Squad, Louisiana Tech University).
After a prayer by Kyle Edgemon, Head of Upper School, athletic director Eddie Francis noted the accomplishments of each athlete, followed by words from their coaches.
Francis added it was also a day to celebrate the parents, families, coaches and mentors who helped each student as well.
“We are proud of the players they are, but even more proud of the people they are,” said Francis, adding about the community service of the Trojans and Lady Trojans.
Henson played softball her freshman and senior seasons for the Lady Trojans. She was first-team all-district and will play in the annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes Heart of a Champion All-Star Softball Game on June 8 at UT Tyler.
Henson led the Lady Trojans in wins, strikeouts, batting average and RBIs. She also pitched a no-hitter against rival Bishop Gorman and struck out 14 in the game.
The University of Dallas is located in Irving. The Crusaders compete in the NCAA Division III Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Henson plans to major in biology.
Martinez has helped the Trojans to three straight district baseball championships. He earned first-team all-district honors his junior and senior seasons.
The Trojans are still in the playoffs and play a regional game on Thursday against Midland Christian in Brock.
LeTourneau, located in Longview, is in NCAA Division III and competes in the American Southwest Conference.
Martinez plans to major in biology.
McCreery is a three-year basketball letterman and a four-year baseball letterman. He has helped the Trojans to four consecutive district championships.
He has been first-team all-district and all-state academic both his junior and senior seasons. McCreery plans to major in biology with a pre-med track.
The University of the South is located in Sewanee, Tennessee. The Tigers are members of the Southern Athletic Association.
Morgan lettered four years in soccer, helping the Lady Trojans to three area championships. She has been first-team all-district and academic all state her junior and senior years.
Morgan plans to major in psychology with a pre-med track.
Smith has been on the cheer and golf teams four years. She helped the Lady Trojans cheer squad to second and third places in TAPPS state competition.
She has represented All Saints in parades in London and at Walt Disney World.
Smith has been all-district in golf as well as academic all-state.
Smith plans to major in bio-medical engineering.
Louisiana Tech is located in Ruston, Louisiana, and the Bulldogs compete in Conference USA.
