- Lt. Col. Allen West speaks at the Texas closure protest sponsored by the East Texas Freedom Coalition at Tyler City Hall.
Former Lt. Col. and congressman Allen West is in stable condition and being treated at a hospital after a motorcycle wreck Saturday.
West, a candidate for the Texas Republican Party chair, was involved in the wreck near Waco between a vehicle and two motorcycles, according to a Facebook post from West’s team.
On social media, his team reported that law enforcement on the scene of the wreck said a car cut West off, which resulted in West’s motorcycle colliding with another motorcycle. West was transported to a hospital and is undergoing assessment.
“Family and members of Team West are at the hospital, and we will continue to provide updates,” the post said. “We appreciate the support and kind notes and solicit your continued prayers.”
West recently spoke at an Open Texas protest sponsored by the East Texas Freedom Coalition in downtown Tyler on May 2 about the value of defending freedom.
He is scheduled as one of the guest speakers at the Tyler Memorial Funeral Home Cemetery and Mausoleum’s Memorial Day service.
The service is set to broadcast live on Facebook at 11 a.m. Monday with guest speakers West and Skip Ogle.
West is the third of four generations of military service members.
Throughout his 22-year U.S. Army career, West served in combat zones and earned honors like a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, one with Valor device, and a Valorous Unit Award.
West was elected to the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 22nd district. As a congressman, he served on the Small Business and Armed Services Committees.
He is also the former executive director of the National Center for Policy Analysis in Dallas and former director of the Booker T. Washington Initiative for the Texas Public Policy Foundation.
