The lure of a Thanksgiving feast did not prevent runners from taking to the streets Thursday, as they participated in the annual Tyler Turkey Trot.
The fan-favorite community races, which included a Kids Dash and adult 5K, were presented by Brookshire’s and Premier CrossFit, and stepped off at Racquet and Jog.
Race organizers Michelle and Cune Pea established the race 13 years ago, with the goal of inspiring family togetherness and promoting fitness.
Money from the race benefits Meals On Wheels and Refuge of Light.
“We are honored to give back to two organizations that do so much for others in our community,” Mrs. Pea said. “Meals On Wheels is a perfect charity to support, especially during Thanksgiving, and Refuge of Light is an organization that provides a safe haven for victims of sex trafficking in the U.S.”
The 5K race was chip-timed and officials awarded the top three overall male and female winners as well as group winners. All children received a shirt and medal for participation.
