Tyler Legacy’s Simeon Garner commits to Rice

Tyler Legacy defensive end Simeon Garner announced his commitment to Rice University on Sunday afternoon.

“I am beyond blessed to announce my commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Rice University! I would like to thank my family, coaches and teammates for always believing in me and for sacrificing their time and effort to help me get to this point. Ready for the next step,” Garner posted on X.



Heading into Friday’s win for the Red Raiders, Garner had 41 tackles, five tackles for loss, four sacks and two forced fumbles.

Garner recorded 69 tackles, 11 sacks, three fumble recoveries and an interception in 2022 as a sophomore at Grace Community. In his first game at Legacy against Lufkin as a junior, Garner suffered a season-ending injury.

Rice is 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the American Athletic Conference after a 29-27 win over UTSA on Saturday.
