Integrative Health Matters, a medical clinic at 419 WSW Loop 323 that helps patients adopt a healthy lifestyle to combat illness, will hold its grand opening on Saturday with a day of special events.
Dr. Zach Bush, a national expert on the causes of chronic illnesses, will speak at 10:30 a.m. and Mike Loggins, the owner of Tyler-based Micro Family Farms, will speak at 12:30 p.m. on the benefits of eating healthy home-grown foods. Both presentations are free and open to the public.
Free yoga sessions are set for 9:30 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.
The clinic was founded by Dr. Guy Danielson, a Tyler neurosurgeon, and his wife, Sherri Danielson, a social worker and licensed health coach.
The clinic’s holistic approach to health care incorporates education, nutrition and behavioral changes.
A staff of doctors and health coaches create individual health plans for each patient, Dr. Danielson said.
“This means we spend a lot of time with our patients and pay attention to their entire story, including their environment and lifestyle,” Dr. Danielson said.
A treatment plan can include a combination of medicine, diet changes, behavioral changes and natural remedies, he said.
Mrs. Danielson said knowing what lifestyle changes to make help patients take more control over their health.
Educating the public about how be healthier is part of the clinic’s mission, Mrs. Danielson said. Free presentations on diet and food preparation will be offered.
The clinic has a teaching kitchen where patients learn how to make meals using healthy food, a classroom where health coaches give weekly community talks and a multipurpose room used for yoga and meditation.
Integrative Health Matters also sells grass-fed beef from East Texas farms and books on healthy living.
The open house on Saturday will provide an opportunity to see the clinic and learn more about its mission.
