JoAnne and Maddy moved to Tyler in 1955 to raise their family and joined the First Presbyterian Church. At the church, she was always playing the piano for different occasions or teaching Sunday school. JoAnne was also involved in numerous civic organizations including the Junior League of Tyler and the Women’s Symphony League. An avid reader, she also participated in several literary circles, always having at least 2 books going. JoAnne enjoyed playing bridge, mahjong, and any other game that involved a deck of cards.
Over and above all, she was devoted to her Savior, her family, and her friends. She always put others’ needs above her own and loved her family unconditionally. Everyone was truly blessed to have had such a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. There was always an extra place at her table for a guest and plenty of food to share. Everyone looked forward to a meal with Jodie because she was such a great cook! Favorite recipes continue to circulate throughout the family.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, A.M. Limmer Jr.; her parents; and her brother, Jerry Russel Shelton.
She is survived by her daughters, Gay Harvey and husband Brad (Tyler) and Ree O’Connell and husband Steve (Austin); four grandchildren; Will and Heather Harvey (Tyler), Cam and Megan Harvey (Lansing, IL), Whitney and Philip Helgren (Austin) and Andrew O’Connell (Austin); one great-grandson Madison Helgren (Austin); nephews, Rusty Shelton (Julia) McKinney, Walton Shelton (Roxanne) Austin, Nick Kaiser (Bellows Falls, VT), Burke Kaiser (Buena Vista, CO); and numerous cousins.
The family would especially like to thank Henrietta Dominguez (who has been with her over 25 years), Jessie Sue Whitaker, and LaQueshia Morgan for their devotion in caring for Jodie. We are deeply grateful for all your kindness.
