Those familiar yellow flashing lights will once again accompany motorists on their commute.
Although Tyler ISD is not back in session until the end of August, other area schools will see students return to class this week.
Classes start as early as Tuesday, Aug. 15 for many local schools. Residents should be aware that as Smith County schools go back in session, the school zone lights will once again be active.
City of Tyler Traffic Engineering Manager Peter Eng said school zone clocks are set according to the schedule of the school they accompany and begin flashing once more on the first day of class.
Motorists exceeding the speed limit or using cell phones during active school zones are subject to fines ranging from $200 to $500.
