Texas DPS: 1 dead, 4 injured in crash on Highway 31 in Smith County

TYLER — One person died and four people were injured Tuesday evening in a car crash in Smith County.

The crash involved two vehicles and happened around 5:50 p.m. Tuesday on State Highway 31 East at County Road 2212, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.



Mary L. Crockett, 55, of Tyler, was driving north on County Road 2212, attempting to turn west on 31. When coming onto the highway, Crockett’s vehicle collided with another vehicle.

Crockett was pronounced dead at the scene, according to DPS. She was wearing a seat belt.

Four people were in the other vehicle, including a 40-year-old woman, 20-year-old woman, 12-year-old boy and 1-year-old girl. All four were taken to a local hospital with non-incapacitating injuries, according to DPS. All occupants were wearing seat belts.

Road conditions were dry and clear at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit at this area is 60 mph.
