Whitehouse rallied from two goals down to force overtime before eventually falling short in a penalty shootout as the LadyCats were stopped by Sulphur Springs in their Class 5A bi-district girls soccer playoff at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium on Friday.

Sulphur Springs advances to the area round where the Lady Wildcats will face Waxahachie next week.

The LadyCats trailed 2-0 at halftime but found a way to get the two goals they needed to force overtime. The equalizer came with 10 seconds remaining in regulation on a header from Kendall Updike off a corner kick from Brooke Morris.

“They definitely showed a lot of heart because we got scored on pretty early in the game,” Whitehouse coach Brad Jones said. “I have to give (the girls) credit because they kept digging and trying to score even though they were exhausted. They hustled and pushed it and got the equalizer.”

Whitehouse pulled the first goal back early in the second half when Lauren Morris slotted a pass into Lyndsey Raabe, who did the rest.

Neither team could break the deadlock in overtime, although Jones said Whitehouse “had some really good opportunities.”

In the penalty kick shootout, Whitehouse missed its first three attempts to trail 2-0. The LadyCats got a reprieve when Tori Caldwell scored followed by a Sulphur Springs miss and Raabe scored to make it 2-2. The Wildcats still had one more chance to win it though and Sulphur Springs scored for the 3-2 shootout victory.

“We piled the pressure on in the second half of overtime, but it went to PKs and you just never know how the nerves are going to be,” Jones said. “It was a really good match.”
