GOP WOMEN
Smith County Republican Women is scheduled to meet at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15 at Traditions Restaurant, 6205 S. Broadway Ave. in Tyler.
The guest speaker will be Tamara Colbert, Texas director of the Convention of States Project.
According to the club, “Citizens concerned for the future of their country, under a federal government that’s increasingly bloated, corrupt, reckless and invasive, have a constitutional option. We can call a Convention of States to return the country to its original vision of a limited federal government that is of, by and for the people.”
The public is invited.
GRASSROOTS AMERICA
Grassroots America will host state Sen. Don Huffines in its regular meeting on Friday, Sept. 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lakeview Church of the Nazarene, 10818 University Blvd. in Tyler.
A member of the Senate Liberty Caucus, Huffines has scored in the top five of every major conservative scorecard. Now, he plans to file legislation to eliminate a state-imposed burden, which is actually just another tax.
Senator Huffines says, “Passenger vehicle safety inspections are more than just a chore – they’re a tax. Let’s get rid of them. The time and money Texans expend on state-mandated inspection of passenger vehicles would be justifiable if they meant safer roads for us and our families. Unfortunately, they do not… Thirty-four states – including populous states such as Florida and California – have seen the data and repealed their mandate.”
There is no cost to attend. The public is welcome. Bring a lunch or purchase a Subway sandwich on site.
