On Monday, the Discovery Science Place children’s museum in Tyler will close for three weeks so workers can complete renovations and put in new displays.

Workers will, install new flooring, paint and improve lighting, said Chris Rasure, executive director.

The work is part of the museum’s “Raise the Roof” capital project. The museum is housed in a 110-year-old building at 308 N. Broadway Ave. The roof was rebuilt earlier this year.

An attraction called Imagination Playground also will be installed, the announcement said.

Imagination Playground will be made up of large foam objects that children can re-arrange to suit their imaginations. The Dr Pepper Snapple Group and KaBOOM! a nonprofit organization, provided the funding, the announcement said.

A large exhibit featuring four model trains pulling passenger cars and box cars through settings also will be installed. It is sponsored by ARC of Smith County, Billy Hibbs Jr. and Lucky Den 13 cub scouts.

The museum, which operates in partnership with The University of Texas at Tyler, is scheduled to reopen on Oct. 8.

Its exhibits are designed to help students explore concepts of math, science and technology.
