A Tyler firefighter who was taken to the hospital after responding to a fire on Sunday was released from the hospital Wednesday..

Scott Hilsabeck was taken to the hospital following a medical issue that occurred while he was at the scene of a structure fire near the intersection of Border Avenue and Selman Street on Sunday morning.

The department has not disclosed details into Hilsabek’s medical issue or how it was caused, but did confirm that he was initially placed in the intensive care unit before later being moved into a regular room.

Tyler Fire Capt. Brandon Davis said emergency medical services were at the scene at the time of the fire and were able to respond to Hilsabeck quickly. 

“We are really grateful and happy for that,” Davis said.

Hilsabeck is expected to make a full recovery and return to work soon.

Investigators with Tyler Fire Marshal’s Office still have not determined a cause for the fire but say, based on the interviews they have conducted, they have no reason to believe the fire was intentionally set. 

The two-story structure suffered heavy damage. Four engines and one ladder company, along with two district chiefs and two investigators responded to the scene, according to the Tyler Fire Department.

Due to the instability of the two-story structure and limited resources, investigators said they were unable to conduct a full investigation of the scene, leaving the cause of the fire undetermined pending further information. The investigation is closed at this time.

Eight occupants were inside the structure and were able to escape.
