Cherokee Theatre stages ‘Shrek’
Cherokee Civic Theatre will present “Shrek: The Musical” this weekend and next weekend at its theater in Rusk.
Performances are set for Saturday and Sunday and Nov. 13 through 15. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Nov. 15. Advance tickets cost $10 for students and $12 for adults. Tickets can be reserved by calling 903-683-2131. Tickets bought at the door cost $15.
The theater is at 157 Fifth St., just off the downtown square.
“This is a shortened version from the original musical, so it’s perfect for younger theater patrons,” CCT Board President Judy Faye Garner said in a statement released through Rusk Chamber of Commerce. “But, by no means, is it short on laughs.”
The musical is based on the DreamWorks movie of the same name. Jessica House is the director and Paul Kelley is the producer and plays the villainous Lord Farquaad.
“Jon Paul is our tallest cast member, so naturally I cast him as the shortest character,” House said in the announcement. “And the rest of our cast is so versatile, many of them are pulling double duty with concurrent roles. Everyone has worked really hard and we’re sure the audience will have as much fun watching the show as we have putting it together.”
The cast also features Preston Parker (Shrek); Randa Parker (Fiona); Devin Coats (Donkey); Tranika Holland (Dragon); Audrey Steele (Gingy); Dylan Garner (Pinocchio); Amanda Pointer (Mama Bear); Ja’nae Arrington (Baby Bear); Charistina Hendricks (Fairy Godmother); Moria Debbs (Wicked Witch); Trinity Asberry (Ugly Duckling); Cody House (Wolf); Emily Marquez, Kenzie Bixler and Ethan Gonzalez (Three Little Pigs); McKenna Pointer (Mad Hatter); Nicholas McCalister (Peter Pan); Caty Boone (Elf); Abigail McCalister (Red Riding Hood); Sage Breen (Grumpy); Abby Franks (teenage Fiona); Lauren Gluck (young Fiona); and Toryn Anderson (young Shrek).
Other cast members are: Erica Truelock, Kylaney Breen, Katie Petri, Addison Filer, Heather Duke, Debra Petri, Shelby Hassell, Kendall Filer, Kaydance Davenport, Janiece Swindell, Skylar Watkins, Sydni Tylich, Jalisa Swindell, Mike Anderson, Judy Husband, Mya Gunter and Jaci Hood.
