Why can’t “America’s Team” have a real home game?

While walking around Jerry World to the media entrance, it felt like the number of orange and navy blue jerseys walking dwarfed those wearing silver, blue and white. The Bears fans were loud and proud too, boisterously making predictions of a Bears win.

Then the game started and those thousands of orange and navy fans continued to provide the atmosphere and were partying well into the night following the game. While the Cowboys supporters began streaming for the exits after Romo’s fourth interception in the fourth quarter, “Let’s Go Bears!” could be heard all around Cowboys Stadium.

Lovie Smith, head coach of the Bears and a Big Sandy native, took note.

“There is nothing like hearing the ‘Let’s Go Bears’ chant early and throughout the game,” Smith said in his press conference afterward. “I thought our fans were outstanding. The Chicago Bears colors were all around; they really were and I am glad we were able to give our loyal fans that type of effort.”

Monday night was not supposed to be about the Bears defense, but about Dallas proving it was the same team that beat the New York Giants on the road to begin the season.

Instead, the Bears brought back the Monsters of the Midway comparisons. Even some of the reporters at the Chicago Bears press conference were making idle chatter saying this was reminiscent of the famous 1985 group.

“Defensively we talk about taking the ball away always, and normally when you score a couple defensive touchdowns, you have a chance to win,” Smith said. “And when you get five takeaways, you are heading in the right direction. Just outstanding play by our defense and it seemed like everyone had a say in it.”

Smith is 2-0 against his boyhood team at Cowboys Stadium, winning both games in convincing fashion.

“It’s always good to come home, and not just for me,” Smith said. “Roberto Garza I think had about 75 relatives and friends here. There are a lot of Chicago Bears fans down here because we do have a lot of guys from this state (on our team).”

And Smith and his team allowed them to party like it was 1985.
