Tyler Legacy, formerly known as Robert E. Lee High School, has had nine players play in the NFL.
Dating back to 1974, the list includes Donnie Gibbs, Randy Grimes, Corey Mayfield, Leonta Rheams, Fred Coleman, Joffrey Reynolds, Matt Flynn, Brandon Pettigrew and Josh Aubrey.
Another name is expected to be added to that list next week as 2019 graduate Beaux Limmer is projected to be selected in the middle rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft, which is scheduled for April 25-27.
“It’s kind of an unbelievable feeling,” Limmer said. “I try not to think about it too much because you can get pretty nervous. I’m just trying to train, take some vacation and try not to think about it a lot. It’s definitely a surreal experience, and I can’t wait.”
Limmer returned to his old school on Wednesday to talk to the Red Raiders as they began their spring practices.
“It feels amazing to be back,” Limmer said. “I heard about the opportunity a couple of weeks ago, and I was asked if I wanted to come do it, and I jumped at the chance. I remember when people would come back and talk to us when I was in their shoes in high school. I always thought it was a big deal. I wanted to come and show support to the team, kind of be an example and give back to the community a little bit.”
Limmer’s message to the current Red Raiders was about realizing how blessed they are to play Class 6A Texas high school football, doing the right thing and working hard over just relying on talent and, lastly, to just have fun playing the game.
“It’s a big deal,” Tyler Legacy head football coach Beau Trahan said of Limmer returning. “He’s been there; he played at the highest level in college. Now, he’s got a chance to play at the highest level in the world. To have a guy that’s walked these halls, had these classes, practiced on this field, played at Rose … it’s a big time deal for our guys. It’s a blessing for him to come out and talk to our guys.”
A three-star recruit coming out of high school at 265 pounds, Limmer went to Arkansas, where he made 41 starts and appeared in 49 games during his career with the Razorbacks, playing both guard and center.
After the 2023 season, Limmer played in the Senior Bowl before going to Dallas to train for the NFL Combine. At the Combine, Limmer — now 6-5, 310 pounds — ran the 40-yard dash in 5.22 seconds, had a 10-yard split of 1.75 seconds, had a vertical jump of 36-5, a broad jump of 9-2, ran the three-cone drill in 7.47 seconds, did the 20-yard shuttle in 4.57 seconds and recorded 39 reps on the bench press.
