Former Tyler Legacy High School standout Bryson Donnell has reportedly entered the transfer portal.
The move was reported by Justin Wells of Inside Texas and RedRaiderSports.com.
Donnell, a running back, has spent two seasons at Texas Tech, carrying the ball 20 times for 87 yards.
“It has been a blessing to call myself a Red Raider the past two seasons,” Donnell posted on Instagram. “I would like to thank (Texas Tech) Coach (Joey) McGuire, the staff & teammates for the consistent support throughout the years. After much thought and consideration, I’ve decided to enter my name into the transfer portal with three season of eligibility remaining. I’m looking forward to where my journey takes me and can’t thank Texas Tech enough for the memories.”
Donnell finished his Legacy career with 2,637 rushing yards, which is No. 6 all time. He also left as the No. 4 scorer in school history with 43 total touchdowns.
In his first season at Texas Tech, Donnell had 16 carries for 72 yards with a long of 38 yards.
“He’s very physical,” McGuire said about Donnell at Big 12 Media Days in July 2023. “He weighs 215 pounds right now. I think he’s going to have a great year. And he’s had a great spring and summer, so we’re excited about him.”
This past season, Donnell had four carries for 15 yards, all coming in the third game of the season against Tarleton State.
Starting running back Tahj Brooks, who ran for 1,538 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023, is coming back for another season at Texas Tech.
