Apaches top LSU-Eunice, 8-2

PINEVILLE, La. —A day after clinching the American Southwest Conference East Division title, the No. 12 UT Tyler baseball squad dropped a pair of games to Louisiana on Saturday.

LC won 7-4 and 7-6.



The Patriots (30-10, 13-5) now prepare for the ASC Tournament.

The first-round best-of-three series with Hardin-Simmons (22-17, 8-10) is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Irwin Field on the campus of UT Tyler. Friday’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday’s game is slated for 1 p.m. with a third game, if necessary, set for 4 p.m.

If the Patriots defeat the Cowboys, UT Tyler will host the ASC Tournament May 3-5.

UT Tyler has won seven straight East titles. It was the Patriots’ eighth overall crown.

East No. 2 Louisiana College (22-16, 12-6) will host West No. 3 Mary Hardin-Baylor (20-19, 10-8) Friday and Saturday.

Kevan House led the Patriots on Saturday with a homer in each game.

In Game 1, the Wildcats scored five runs in the third to take the lead.

House had a two-run homer and a double for UT Tyler, while Jeff Kosta had a solo shot.

Cole Bagbey had a solo homer for the Wildcats.

In Game 2, House had a three-run homer for the Patriots, while Jared Gobert had a solo home run.

Doug Kinsey had three hits for UT Tyler, while Issac Tijerina and Dillon Berry had two hits apiece.

Bagbey had a homer for LC.

TJC tops LSU-Eunice, 8-2

EUNICE, La. —Jacob French allowed only one earned run in nine innings of work as the Tyler Junior College Apaches scored an 8-2 win over LSU-Eunice on Saturday at Allgood Field.

TJC (29-15) is ranked No. 3 in NJCAA Division III, while the Bengals (36-8) are ranked No. 1 in NJCAA Division II.

French had five strikeouts and only two walks.

Eric Stegent led the Apaches with three hits, including a double and two RBIs. Jacob Soisson (2 RBIs), Hunter Sutton (triple), Blaise Warrick (RBI) and Justin Monsour (RBI) each had two hits for TJC.

Connor McMullin and Kyle Sargent had one hit apiece for the Apaches. Connor Wrye added two RBIs.

Casey Rodrigue and Derek Herrington each had two hits for the Bengals.

The teams conclude their three-game set at 1 p.m. today.
