LINDALE — Two penalty-kick shootouts were needed to decide Friday’s Class 4A girls sectional playoff games at Eagle Stadium.

In the first game, Mabank defeated Kilgore after a scoreless regulation and overtime. Pine Tree and Whitehouse followed with another scoreless regulation and overtime with Whitehouse taking out the Lady Pirates in PKs.

Both Whitehouse and Mabank move into the Class 4A Region II quarterfinals next week. Whitehouse will face the winner of Corsicana-Waxahachie and Mabank takes on the winner of Ferris-Red Oak.

In the clash between Pine Tree and Whitehouse, the LadyCats won 4-2 in penalties. Goals from Whitehouse were by Stephanie Gonzalez, Lauren Morris, Bonnie Cotton and Suvannah Kerns-Melton.

Pine Tree’s two goals were provided by Ana Solis and Kalynn Hudman.

Whitehouse’s keeper was Kamryn York.

In the Mabank-Kilgore game, Mabank won 3-1 in penalties. Mabank missed its first two and converted three in a row after that. The goals were by Megan Hollyfield, Kaitlyn Baker and Madison Hollyfield.

Kilgore’s lone tally was scored by Liz Stegall.

The Lady Bulldogs completed their season at 11-8-1.

Mabank’s goalkeeper was Bailey Swain.

 

Allen tops Longview in penalties

FORNEY — After 100 minutes of scoreless action, Longview and Allen had to go to penalty kicks to decide which team would advance in the girls’ soccer playoffs.

Allen made all three of its attempts and Longview was able to connect on one of four tries as Allen defeated the Lady Lobos in Class 5A area round action Friday night at City Bank Stadium.

Allen (13-5-6) advances to face Plano West, a 9-1 winner over Rockwall. Longview ended the season with a 13-8-2 record.

Longview opened the penalty kicks and missed the first two chances. Allen responded with makes from Caroline Kemme and Peyton Robertson. Lauren Hall then made one for the Lady Lobos to cut it to 2-1, but Allen’s Genesis Turman connected to put the pressure on Longview.

Callie Anderson replaced Taylor Plate in goal for Longview’s fourth opportunity and she stopped Michelle Butron’s attempt to end the contest.

Allen had several opportunities to score in the first half, taking eight shots on goal — six in the first 12 minutes. Fortunately for Longview, goalkeeper Jakayla Anthony was able to keep the Lady Eagles off the scoreboard.

The Lady Lobos’ only shot on goal in the first half came in the eighth minute when Molly Warren, who scored the lone goal in the playoff win over Garland, missed on a header on a long throw-in from Kaitlyn Adams. Longview also was held without a corner kick in the opening 40 minutes.

Longview held Allen to just three shots in the second half. Marissa Kinsey, Morgan Cherry, Chloe Fowler and Kemme were the primary attackers for the Lady Eagles.

Longview’s defenders, notably Adams, Rhejanne Durrant and Felica Ellison, did a good job of making it difficult for Allen to find the net.

Neither team attempted a shot or a corner kick in the first overtime period, but Allen was able to get three chances in the final overtime period, including two shots in a 20-second span by Cherry.

Adams had a long throw-in go into the box with 35 seconds left in the second overtime period, but Allen was able to knock the ball downfield to force penalty kicks.
