TJC’s Chanler Ferguson, Diarva Brown earn NJCAA football All-America honors

- TJC's Diarva Brown earned honorable mention All-America honors at defensive back.
Tyler Junior College’s Chanler Ferguson and Diarva Brown were named to the NJCAA All-America football team, the organization announced from its headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Ferguson, a sophomore linebacker from Delray Beach, Florida, earned second-team honors with Brown, a sophomore defensive back from Paris, was honorable mention.
Ferguson has signed with Florida Atlantic University. He also had offers from Middle Tennessee State, Toledo, Akron and South Alabama before inking with the Boca Raton, Florida.
The Owls compete in Conference USA and are coached by Lane Kiffin.
Ferguson led the Apaches in tackles with 83, averaging 9.2 tackles per game. He also had two interceptions, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
Brown had 42 tackles for the Apaches, averaging 4.7 per game, and led the squad with six interceptions and 13 pass breakups.
Brown was fourth in the nation in interceptions behind three players who had seven and fourth in pass breakups with 13.
FIRST TEAM
Four Southwest Junior College Football Conference players earned first-team honors — Navarro College freshman quarterback Parker McNeil, Kilgore College sophomore offensive lineman Nick Paul, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M freshman defensive back Gervarrius Owens and NEO sophomore punter Tommy Heatherly.
SECOND TEAM
Joining Ferguson on the second team from the SWJCFC were Navarro sophomore OL Josh Cooper, Trinity Valley Community College sophomore defensive lineman Tevan McAdams and NEO sophomore defensive back Taquelin Harris.
HONORABLE MENTION
Brown was joined on the HM list by NEO sophomore running back Darran Williams, Cisco College sophomore wide receiver Bradley Rozner and Navarro sophomore wide receiver Jared Wyatt.
The All-America selections are made by the NJCAA football committee.
