Funeral services for Nelda Jo (Mallory) Buie, 85, of Tyler, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019, at the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel in Tyler with Rev. Richard Luna officiating. A private burial will follow at Cathedral In The Pines in Tyler. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway. Mrs. Buie passed away Monday, May 20, 2019, at Tyler ContinueCARE Hospital. She was born Sept. 26, 1933, in Lindale, Texas, to Beatrice Taylor and Richard Lee Mallory. Nelda married Norris Buie on April 3, 1958, and they shared 61 wonderful years together. Nelda graduated from Lindale High School in 1951, attended Tyler Junior College to study business and then worked as a secretary before staying home to raise and spoil their two children. Mrs. Buie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great cook who continued to cook lunch for the whole family several days a week well into her 70s. Her Thanksgiving dressing was always a family favorite. Nelda was a faithful member of Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church and Asbury United Methodist Church before that, where she served as treasurer. Mrs. Buie was a sports fan and her favorite time of the year was football season. She dreaded the end of each Super Bowl, because that meant no more football to watch until August. Later in life she also enjoyed watching professional golf with Norris. Nelda was an avid newspaper and book reader, a great listener and loved her family and her dogs very much. In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons Jeff, Joe and his wife Camille, and granddaughter Marissa Buie, all of Tyler, granddaughter Malori Hunter, of Dallas, and grandson Cody Wofford, of Tyler, brothers Leroy and wife Shirley, Gary and wife Kathy, brother-in-law Herbert Buie and wife Melvina, all of Tyler, and sister-in-law LaVonne Harris of Houston. Mrs. Buie also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to all the nurses and staff at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital and Tyler ContinueCARE Hospital at Christus Mother Frances. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church, 417 County Road 1143, Tyler, TX, 75704; or The Gideons International.
