Marshall scores win over Lions

Marshall pitchers Ayden Lewis and Kinsler Payne combined on a one-hitter in leading the Mavericks to a 10-0 five-inning win over the Tyler Lions on Tuesday in a District 10-5A baseball game at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Mike Carter Field.

The Mavericks improved to 8-17 overall and 5-6 in district. The Lions fell to 3-17 and 0-10.



Lewis threw three innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout and one walk. Payne followed by tossing two innings. He did not allow a hit with three strikeouts and one walk.

Malachi Deleon had a single for the Lions with stolen bases from Aden Portley and Juan Higuera.

Aldo Enriquez and Judson Illingworth had doubles for the Mavs.

Adding singles for Marshall were Jack Weaver, Keyunta Lias, Cannon Thurmon, Aidyn Green, Casey Cross and Lewis.

RBIs were from Weaver, Illingworth, Jayden Reaves, Graham Smith, Green and Cross.

Illingworth and Lias each had two stolen bases. Also swiping bags were Bryce Alexander and Jason Clark.

The Lions have two more games this week — 7 p.m. Friday at Jacksonville and 2 p.m. Saturday against Lufkin at Mike Carter Field.

The Mavericks also have two more games this week, hosting Hallsville at 7 p.m. Friday and traveling to Texarkana on Saturday to meet Texas High in a 7 p.m. contest.
