Baseball Notebook: Whitehouse’s Adams, Overton’s Holleman, Arp’s Cliborn take weekly honors

Whitehouse’s Jojo Adams, Overton’s Rylan Holleman and Arp’s Caden Cliborn have earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Baseball Player of the Week honors for games played March 3-8.
Adams and Holleman were selected as the Hitters of the Week, and Cliborn was chosen as the Pitcher of the Week.
Adams had 11 hits with four triples and five stolen bases while playing with a broken hand. Adams went 4-for-4 with two triples in the district opener against Marshall. In the Kaufman County Tournament, Adams had seven hits with two triples and five stolen bases despite sitting out two games.
Holleman went 7-for-9 (.778) with three home runs, two doubles, 12 RBIs and three walks.
Cliborn allowed one hit and no earned runs against Troup, with six strikeouts, one pickoff and two caught stealing in 4.2 innings.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):
PITCHING
Brook Hill junior left-hander Levi Visser allowed no runs on three hits with five strikeouts and one walk in 4.2 innings, picking up a save.
Van senior Grady Baetz allowed three earned runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk in six innings.
HITTING
Tyler Legacy’s Garner McKinney went 4-for-7 (.571) with a double, an RBI, two runs, two walks and two stolen bases.
Brook Hill senior Samuel Williams went 2-for-6 (.333) with a triple, a sacrifice fly and three RBIs.
Bishop Gorman’s Pierce Duke was 7-for-9 (.778) with three RBIs, five runs and three stolen bases.
Van senior Landon Smith went 7-for-14 (.500) with three doubles, a triple, five RBIs, eight runs, three walks, two hit by pitches and four stolen bases.
Arp junior Will Sanford went 4-for-9 (.444) with a home run, five RBis, four runs, five walks and no strikeouts.
Grand Saline senior Carson Brown went 9-for-13 (.692) with two home runs, a double, nine RBIs and four runs. Senior Landon Mayne went 6-for-14 (.429) with three home runs, a triple, a double, five RBIs and seven runs.

East Texas teams ranked in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association rankings are Hallsville No. 10 in 5A; Spring Hill No. 6 and Lindale No. 8 in 4A; Liberty-Eylau No. 1 and Huntington No. 7 in 3A; and Frankston No. 10 in 2A. Also receiving votes are Central Heights and Diboll in 3A; and Garrison and Groveton in 2A.
