Tyler High School’s junior varsity basketball gym was filled with East Texas football players Thursday evening, as 42 teams and 423 players gathered for the second photo shoot of the preseason for The Zone magazine.
The magazine is produced by the Tyler Morning Telegraph and Longview News-Journal. Two photo shoots were held this year. Last week’s photo shoot in Longview at Pine Tree High School’s Pirate Center saw 22 teams and 222 players participate, making for a grand total of 645 players and 64 teams who were part of the 2024 photo shoots.

The professional photos will be featured in The Zone preseason magazine, which is exclusive only to subscribers of the Morning Telegraph and News-Journal. In addition to photos taken this June, the magazine will feature 150 glossy pages filled with key stats and players, team breakdowns, schedules and more for about 140 teams in the region.
The Zone magazine is a combined effort of the sports, marketing, advertising, circulation, photography and design staffs at M. Roberts Media newspapers in East Texas. This year’s preseason photo shoots are made possible by a number of supporters, including presenting sponsor Christus Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute. SIG/Ramey Insurance also supported the event and players left with The Zone water bottles featuring SIG/Ramey’s logo.
