TYLER — Accompanied by his favorite song “Moonglow”, Albert Dean Chapman, of Tyler, Texas, left us on May 8 to dance again with his beloved Marilee. Born August 11, 1925, Dean lost his mother at age nine; his life became a testament to determination, integrity, compassion, kindness, generosity, grace & love.
Dean graduated high school in 1942, served in the US Army (1944 – 1945). He earned degrees at Tyler Junior College (1948), Baylor University (BBA, 1953), & South Texas College of Law (1964). His law career spanned 60 years – as a Title Attorney for Mobil Oil, in private practice & Of-Counsel at Flowers Davis Law Firm in Tyler.
Dean married Marilee in 1955; married for 65 years. Always putting family first, Dean was a devoted husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather, offering guidance, support, & unconditional love.
The ultimate gentleman, Dean was active in the State & East Texas Bars, East Texas Petroleum Landmen (past president), & Marvin Methodist Church for over 80 years, including 30 years in the Men’s Bible Study Group. Dean’s vibrant personality & humor brought joy to many; he kept everyone laughing.
Dean loved music – at TJC he played trumpet in the school band & his own group; later for the Marvin Orchestra & the East Texas Symphony.
Dean is survived by his daughters, Dawn Chapman Herwood (Gary) & Suzanne Chapman Reams (Joel), his grandchildren Chapman Herwood, Callan Paul (Justin), Noah Reams (Jessica), & Nyle Reams, & his great-grandchildren Noelle & Weston Paul. He was preceded in death by parents, Bruce & Vera Darnell Chapman, wife Marilee Rabb Chapman, & brothers Jerry & Bill Chapman.
Dean’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched. He was loved & admired & will be missed.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for October 5th at Marvin Methodist Church. Donations can be made to Marvin Methodist Church or Faith Community Church (Tyler).
