Running red lights and reckless speeding
The power of the press is needed. Editor, please assign one your journalists to ask the hard question “why are our police and sheriff’s departments so reluctant on patrolling and ticketing the overwhelming amount of drivers that are running red lights and recklessly speeding?”
Please understand my respect for our male and female officers and the departments. I have the greatest respect. I question the city of Tyler administration.

Political independence requires an independent Texas
I read the Tyler Morning Telegraph article, ”Declaring Political Independence” by David Simpson (March 22). In his article, Mr. Simpson said that George Washington “eschewed” political parties. That is partly true, but Washington broadly was sympathetic to the Federalist Party. Yet, in our current age, both the Republican and the Democrat parties have largely betrayed the American people.
We are over-taxed, plagues by high crime, high inflation, insecure borders and no sense of political boundaries which include moral decency. Politicians just seek ways to get re-elected.
I am patriotic and not a knee-jerk person. I am starting to believe that if Texas is to have true independence and security, we will have to be truly independent. By that, I hope we can become a Republic again. Granted, we are dependent on the federal government as it currently stands. But, there must be a way of weaning-off federal dependency. What Texans have paid in, in blood sweat, tears and cash should be returned to Texas.
Our Texas independence needs to become a reality soon.
