The Golden Road Water Treatment Plant in Tyler. From Oct. 4 to Oct. 31 the City of Tyler will be temporarily converting its water disinfection process from chloramine to free chlorine.

Tyler Water Utilities plans to construct a new elevated storage tank to improve water pressure for residents and enhance the water distribution system.

The project will be led by engineering firm Halff, who recently developed a Water Model and Master Plan to determine which parts of the water system require attention.

In fall 2023, Halff presented the City Council with a study of the Water Model and Master Plan. The comprehensive study examined the entire distribution system, using a system hydraulic model to identify existing constraints and plan for future growth over 25 years. The study estimated future growth for the city by analyzing its water treatment facilities and distribution system.

The new elevated storage tank’s general location will be Highway 155, or Frankston Highway, between Walton Road and Earl Campbell Parkway. The exact location will be determined during the project’s preliminary design. The tank will serve primarily the upper-pressure plane and be a 1.5 to 2-million-gallon composite-style tank with a concrete column and steel bowl.

The new elevated storage tank will reduce stress on the system and treatment plants during peak demand. The project will be divided into two packages, the first specific to the elevated storage tank and the second associated with transmission mains to distribute water.
