Girls Basketball Notebook: Brownsboro’s Tiykeah McKenzie takes weekly honor

Brownsboro sophomore Tiykeah McKenzie has been named the Tyler Morning Telegraph Girls Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 21-26.
McKenzie averaged 22.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 7.5 steals and 2.5 assists in wins over Hawkins and Whitehouse.

On Tuesday against Hawkins, McKenzie had 19 points, eight rebounds, five steals and three assists. She followed that up with a triple-double on Saturday against Whitehouse, scoring 26 points with 10 rebounds, 10 steals and two assists.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (based on information provided by coaches):
Whitehouse freshman Tayla Morris averaged 23.0 points per game. She had 25 points in a win over Forney and had 21 points and eight steals in a loss to Brownsboro.
Hawkins’ Laney Wilson averaged 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in two games, including scoring 24 points in a win over Quitman.
Van’s Landry Jones had 23 points, eight rebounds, eight steals and three assists in a win over Sabine. Cassidy Stewart had 13 points. Marisa Richardson had 12 points, seven assists and six steals.
Chapel Hill’s DJ Kincade had 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals in an overtime win over Kaufman. Alexia Rogers had 14 points.

LaPoynor junior Payton Maze had 25 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and a block in a win over Palmer.
Neches’ Joely Jenkins averaged 16.0 points, 4.5 assists, 5.0 steals and 1.0 rebound per game in wins over Giddings and Cross Roads.
