Megan Reaves, 24, made her way onto the football field at Hawkins High School to receive a gift she “won” in a contest from Athletic Director Scott Evans before a game against All Saints Episcopal School Sept. 6, 2019, in Hawkins. 



An unsuspecting Reaves spoke with Evans for a moment before Evans surprised her with a football that had “Marry me?” written on it in bold black marker.

Coach John Gattis, 25, then approached Reaves from behind, got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife in front of a stadium of cheering fans. 



Reaves said “yes” to Gattis’ proposal. Gattis threw a celebratory fist in the air and the newly engaged couple exited the field with ear-to-ear smiles.
