In commemoration of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Memorial Day), an interfaith Holocaust remembrance program, “Holocaust: Past, Present, Future?” will be presented 2:30 p.m. May 5 at Congregation Ahavath Achim, 3501 S. Donnybrook Ave., Tyler.

The program is designed to remember and honor victims and survivors of the Holocaust — the systematic, bureaucratic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of approximately 6 million Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators from 1933 to 1945. The program is also designed to review the history of genocides of the past and examine the factors leading to these events.

Guest speakers include a representative of the Tyler mayor’s office; the Rev. Ginger Brandt, First Christian Church; Seth Clark, Ahavath Achim; Cindy Coumier, CrossPointe Community Church; Pastor Johnathan Ellison, CrossPointe Community Church; Rob Mason, board of directors chairman, First Christian Church; Kevin Roper, Rose Heights Church; Rabbi Alan Learner, Congregation Ahavath Achim; and Dr. Ronald Beals.

A proclamation issued by Mayor Martin Heines declaring April 28 through May 5 as the Days of Remembrance of the victims, survivors and rescuers of the Holocaust, will be read by former Council member John Nix.

The commemoration program is free and open to the public.
