Ann Cooper, of Texarkana, may not know any of the children who made her around 20 Valentine’s Day cards, but on Thursday she was told she is loved, has a new BFF and is purrfect the way she is.

After the cards were delivered to her room at UT Health East Texas, the group of 89.5 KVNE and 93.1 KGLY radio personalities and volunteers who delivered them spent time talking with Cooper.

She said she is hopeful she soon will be healthy enough to leave the hospital.

Others in the room joined Mike Harper, KVNE Morning Show host and vice president, as he prayed that she felt both loved by the children who created the cards and comforted by Christ along her journey to recovery.

“We thank you that we can come to you in Jesus’ name and bring this need to you and trust that you can take care of it,” Harper prayed. “Lord, you love her more than we can ever imagine and we’re so grateful for your love, for your mercy.”

On Wednesday and Thursday, representatives from 89.5 KVNE and 93.1 KGLY worked together to deliver homemade Valentine’s Day cards to an estimated 1,700 people.

This year, East Texas families, schools, churches and individuals cut, glued and wrote more than 32,000 Valentine’s Day cards for the effort.

The cards were delivered to assisted-living facilities, nursing homes, veterans homes, hospitals and more. Five teams traveled to a total of 21 locations.

“We were asking for more cards than ever before and East Texas responded in a really big way,” said Fletcher Jonson, who coordinates the drive.

He said the cards provide recipients a reminder that God loves them and that “there are people out there who love them even if we can’t get to see them every single day or every week.”
