5 arrested in Henderson County drug raids

Five people were arrested during Henderson County Sheriff’s Office raids Wednesday in Athens and Gun Barrel City, according to a news release.

Sheriff’s deputies started raids in the early evening and continued until midnight, the release said. 



Those arrested include:

Chad Lawyer, 47, of Athens, on a charge of possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 in an amount greater than or equal to 1 gram but less than 4 grams; Keely McKinney, 20, of Edgewood, on an outstanding warrant for theft; and Raymond Kirbie, 63, of Gun Barrel City, on charges of possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 in the amount of less than 1 gram and tampering with physical evidence.

Lawyer and McKinney were arrested in a residence near Athens and Kirbie was arrested in a residence in Gun Barrel City. Kirbie admitted that he flushed some drugs down the toilet as law enforcement arrived, according to the news release, and drug paraphernalia also was found at the scene.

A Murchison man also was arrested at a residence near Athens on suspicion of a parole violation.
