Chocolate dessert contest set for Jan. 27

The Thirteenth Annual Best Chocolate Dessert in East Texas Contest will be held on Jan. 27 at the Glass Recreation Center, 501 W. 32nd St. in Tyler.



The Smith County Extension Education Association and the Tyler Parks and Recreation Department will host the contest. Entries will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the day of the event. There are two divisions: Youth up to age 17 and Adult for 18 years and older. The entry fee is $2 per item entered, and is due on the day of the contest. Entry forms can be obtained from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Smith County. You also can fill out your entries at the Glass Recreation Center when you bring your desserts and recipes to the contest. In addition to the bragging rights that come with being selected the best chocolate dessert in East Texas, cash prizes will be awarded to the top three in each division.

A free, informative food demonstration class will be offered to the general public and contestants beginning at 1 p.m. Admission is free, however a donation of purchased, individually wrapped snack items will benefit Garden Valley Senior Citizen’s Center. Door prizes will be given away and you can purchase tickets for items that will be in a drawing. Contest winners will be announced at the conclusion of judging.
