SAN ANTONIO — It is as much a ritual of summer as baseball, hot dogs and fireworks — the Texas High School Coaches Association Convention.
The 2014 edition will be the 82nd annual event. Along with the many clinics and exhibits in the Alamo City, there are the all-star football and basketball games.
And several East Texans are involved in the big show.
Three East Texans are in the 70th All-Star basketball game, which is scheduled for Monday at the Alamo Convocation Center.
Anthony Sanders, of Athens, is on the North squad, while Robbie Rockwell, of Tatum, and Samuel Scott, of Diboll, are on the South squad.
Jaime Boswell, of San Angelo, Central will coach the North while Lonny Hubbard, of Cibolo Steele, will coach the South.
Tipoff for the basketball game is 7 p.m. Tickets at the door are $10.
East Texans are on the football all-star team as well.
On the North team will be Jake Parker, of Whitehouse; DeRodrick Alexander, of Longview; Calvin Bryant, of Daingerfield; Damontes Dowell, of Malakoff; and Clay Wiley, of Kilgore.
Joey McGuire, of Cedar Hill, will coach the North All-Stars.
The South football team includes Blake Bogenshutz, of Carthage, and Jeffrey Wilson, of Elkhart.
Bob Gillis, of El Campo, will coach the South All-Stars.
The 80th annual All-Star football game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Alamodome. Tickets are $10 at the gate.
Both games will be streamed live on FoxSportsSouthwest.com and televised the following day on FOX Sports Southwest. A tape-delayed broadcast of the basketball game will be shown on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. and the football game on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Lincoln Rose (play-by-play) and former Baylor coach Jim Haller (analyst) are on the call for the basketball game. FOX Sports Southwest’s High School Scoreboard Live anchor Craig Way (play-by-play) teams with Keith Moreland (analyst) to call the football game.
