THE COLONY — Tyler’s Haley Mills finished as low amateur Thursday at the Texas Women’s Open at the Old American Golf Club.

Mills was tied for the overall lead after her first-round 68, but settled for runner-up following a 4-over 75 on Thursday to give her a two-round total of 143. She received a crystal trophy as low amateur.

Christi Cano of San Antonio had her first professional victory. She entered the day tied with Mills atop the leaderboard, but shot an even-par 71 to win by four shots. It was Cano’s third time competing in the Texas Women’s Open and she will take home a check for $2,500.

Mills posted a front nine score of 1-under 34 and finished with a 5-over 41 on the back nine.

Kelsey Kipp, who like Mills played for Robert E. Lee, finished seventh with a 72-76—148. In the professional standings, Kipp was fifth to take home a check for $950.

Her younger sister, Kerbey Kipp (86-99), also participated in the event as an amateur, shooting a two-round total of 185.

The 36-hole stroke play event featured 86 top professionals and amateurs. The 25 professionals competed for a share of the $10,450 purse. The top five amateurs of the 61 who competed also received gift certificates.
