Lubbock Christian sweeps TC

LUBBOCK — No. 16 Lubbock Christian University completed their home opening series with a doubleheader sweep of Texas College Saturday at Hays Field.

LCU received a complete game outing from Kyle Forsyth in the first game for a 7-2 win and then held on for a 9-8 win in the second game.

After dropping the first game on Friday, LCU closed the four-game series with three straight wins over TC.

Forsyth held the Steers off the scoreboard until the top of the fourth inning in the first game. He hit the first two batters before surrendering consecutive singles and a sacrifice fly, which allowed TC to tie the game at 2-2.

The Chaps retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, Nevarez led off again with a single and it led to a run with Brandon Wilson following with a triple to score him. Brent Leslie sacrificed in Wilson for a 4-2 difference. LCU grabbed some insurance with a pair of runs in the fifth inning and a run in the sixth inning for a 7-2 margin.

Vazquez finished the game 4-for-4 to lead the LCU bats. Forsyth pitched his second complete game of the season and allowed two runs off six hits (all singles) in seven innings to improve to 2-0 on the season. Tyler Seibert suffered the loss for TC and fell to 0-3. Matt McEuen went 2-for-3 for the Steers in the losing cause.

In the second game, LCU led 4-0 only to see TC pull even at 5-5. The Chaps went back ahead 9-6 before TC cut the deficit to 9-8 after Corey Heidebrecth his third double in the game to highlight a two-run sixth for the Steers.

Heidebrecht came up in the seventh inning with an opportunity to tie the game with a runner at third base, but Chaps pitcher Hunter Flake sealed his first victory forcing Heidebrecht into grounding out to second base to end the game.

The Steers produced six doubles in the game and Heidebrecht finished 4-for-5 with his trio of doubles. LCU received hits from eight different players. Smith, Fisch and Leslie each had multi-hit games with two hits each.
