Playoff Bound: Athens tops Brownsboro to reach postseason

BROWNSBORO — Devin Hall and Raheem Miller each racked up 167 yards rushing to lead the Athens Hornets to a 55-20 District 15-3A win over the Brownsboro Bears on Friday.
Hall finished the game with three rushing touchdowns and Miller had two as the Hornets earned a spot in postseason play.
Athens (4-6, 3-2) took control of the game early, scoring 20 points before Brownsboro’s offense finally got rolling.
The Hornets started the first-quarter scoring on a 4-yard run by Hall with 10:36 on the clock.
Athens scored again less than a minute later on a 20-yard interception return by Chris Jefferson. Just 40 seconds later, Miller scored his first TD on a 3-yard run to give the Hornets a 20-0 lead.
Brownsboro (5-5, 2-3) made it 20-7 with 4:05 remaining in the quarter on a 27-yard Shelby Rogers-to-Devonte Givens scoring pass.
Athens put up 21 more in the second quarter, scoring on a 1-yard run by Anthony Sanders, a 22-yard Sander-to-George Hutson pass and a 45-yard carry by Miller.
Brownsboro made it 41-13 at halftime with a 56-yard Rogers-to-Quintus Lee TD pass with 1:31 left.
The two cross-county teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter with Brownsboro’s Lee taking the second-half kickoff 103 yards, and Athens’ Hall closing out the quarter with a 4-yard TD run with 32 seconds remaining.
Hall closed out the scoring with 3:55 remaining in the game.
