Alex enjoys new and exciting experiences. A tour of Brookshire’s World of Wildlife Museum made his eyes light up.

“He is a really sweet boy,” Alex’s foster moth-er, Yvonne Dixon, said.

This happy 13-year-old likes to explore and is eager to go on outings with his foster family. “He’s just such a good boy, very loving and loves to sit with his (foster) daddy and watch football. So yes, we are really attached to him,” Ms. Dixon said.

Alex was born with a malformed brain and uses a wheelchair to help with his mobility, but he prefers to be on his feet and on the go.

“He likes to walk around the house,” Ms. Dixon said. “He has a pattern that he goes back and forth with. He picks up his toys off the ground and plays with them until he sees another toy he likes, and then he’ll pick that up and play with it. His favorite toys are ones that make a sound, like a rattle.”

But Alex tires easily and can become unstable on his feet. When not in his wheelchair, he wears a helmet in case of a fall.

This young man has a tremendous personality, and it’s growing brighter every day. He has made great progress since coming into foster care.

“When we first got him, he was nearly comatose,” Ms. Dixon said. “He wasn’t getting enough seizure medicine, so he was having constant seizures all the time. Doctors said he was probably having two or three seizures every second, which meant he couldn’t function.”

Now, Alex is enjoying activities and school.

“He rides the bus every day to school. He goes to a special school where they do a lot of therapy,” Ms. Dixon said.

Alex would do best in a home filled with compassion and patience, and parents committed to a special son.

“He will need care for the rest of his life,” she said.

But his greatest need is the same one every child deserves.

“He just needs to be loved,” Ms. Dixon said. “That’s the biggest deal.”
