PALESTINE — Peter Maddox threw for three touchdowns including two to Matt Savis as the Van Vandals ran over the Palestine Wildcats 38-7 Friday.

Van jumped out to a 10-0 first-quarter lead on a 25-yard field goal by Jozef Ruiz and a 19-yard pass from Maddox to Layton Myers.

Palestine made it 17-7 on a 23-yard Gee Clark to Vay Davis pass, but the Vandals’ Aphong Thomas took the ensuing kickoff back 90 to put Van back up 24-7.

Maddox, who finished the game 11 of 21 for 182 yards, hit Matt Savis twice in the second quarter for TD passes of 45 and 43 yards and a 31-7 Van halftime lead.

After a scoreless third quarter Savis, who finished the game with 99 yards rushing, closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run.
