RICHARDSON — UT Tyler softball pitcher Kelsie Batten was unhittable and nearly perfect on Friday afternoon in a 3-0 win over UT Dallas.

Batten allowed no runs on no hits with no walks, and only an error prevented her from a perfect game. The no-hitter is the first this season for Batten, and second all-time for the sophomore hurler.

No. 4-ranked UT Tyler (27-2, 21-1) started slowly on offense, but broke through in the top of the fourth.

Shelby Shelton knocked in the first run of the game with an RBI-single.

It stayed that way until the sixth when KK Stevens added some insurance on a two-run single, knocking in Shelton and Whitney Burt That was more than enough for Batten, who faced 22 batters as one reached on an error.

Batten threw just 83 pitches in seven innings of work, tallying 11 ground-ball outs, three fly-ball outs, with seven strikeouts.

Vanessa Carrizales recorded two hits on the afternoon, while Lauren Robenalt, Raven Rodriguez, Shelton and Stevens finished with one apiece.

The teams will be back at it Saturday with a doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m.
