In their first two conference games, the Apaches have shown they can win at a slow pace or speed it up.
Either way, Tyler Junior College is 2-0 in Region XIV basketball play.
On Saturday, the Apaches turned up the engines in a resounding 98-72 win over Angelina College at Wagstaff Gymnasium.
In the first game, Angelina's inside power proved too much for the Apache Ladies in an 82-64 win.
Both TJC teams are on the road on Wednesday traveling to meet Jacksonville College at Curtis Carroll Field House. The women play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.
With eight slam dunks, including two punctuated after alley-oop passes, the Apaches showed their athletic ability against the Roadrunners.
TJC (9-0, 2-0) got the jets going in the second half, scoring 60 points.
That was almost as many points as they scored in a slow-down, 66-61 win over Lamar State-Port Arthur on Wednesday.
Jaqwan McCauley led the Apaches with 26 points, followed by Kwinton Hinson (18), Davente Cooper (12), Brian Warren (11) and Desmond Balentine (10).
Eden Ewing had 10 rebounds with the Apaches combining for seven blocks, including three by Cooper.
Angelina (9-3, 1-1) could not keep pace with TJC as the Roadrunners were 9 of 33 from 3-point land.
Robert Lewis led the Roadrunners with 20 points while Trent Brinkley added 10.
Angelina came in averaging 98 points per game, but could only muster 72.
Adding to the tense game was the ejection of Angelina head coach Kyle Manary after two technical fouls. There were two other technical fouls assessed on AC players.
The Apaches were 25 of 38 from the free throw line and 3 of 10 from 3-point land.
The Roadrunners were 13 of 18 from the charity stripe.
Kyndall Powell, Victor Bell Jr. and Isiah Bailey fouled out for AC (30 fouls).
TJC was called for 21 fouls.
The insider power of AC was too much for TJC as Kennethah Harden (20) and La'Neique Nealey (19) combined for 39 points and 15 rebounds apiece. Plus, sharpshooter Karley McHenry poured in five 3-pointers and a total of 20 points.
TJC's Sky'lynn Holmes tried to keep pace with her 15 boards and 20 points, but Nautica Grant was next in rebounds with three.
Grant did score 18 points while Jordan Towery added eight.
TJC fell to 8-2 overall and 1-1 in league play, while Angelina moved to 7-3 and 2-1.
The Apache Ladies were 18 of 26 from the free throw line, while Angelina was 20 of 27. TJC had 20 fouls with AC committing 19.
