TJC women advance in tourney, defeat Southwestern Illinois

SALINA, Kan. – Bria Emanuel hit for 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Tyler Junior College a 74-52 win over Southwestern Illinois College on Tuesday in a first round game of the NJCAA Women’s Basketball National Tournament at the Bicentennial Center.

TJC (29-5) advances to the second round at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Southern Idaho.



Southwestern Illinois ends its season at 23-6.

Other top scores for the Apache Ladies were Shernise Robertson (16), Brittny Norris (13) and Malena Washington (10).

Jasmine Prophet had seven rebounds for TJC.
