Texas College wrapping up regular season at home

Texas College enters the home stretch on the diamond today in its final regular season baseball series.

The Steers play host to the University of Southwest (N.M.) in a doubleheader at noon, followed by a single game at noon Saturday on the Texas College campus.



The Steers won seven straight before getting swept by nationally ranked Bacone at home last weekend, then splitting a doubleheader on Tuesday with Division I Prairie View A&M.

The Steers (11-12 in Red River Athletic Conference) are in the sixth spot, and can move to fifth with a three-game sweep over Southwest (7-17), coupled with a three-game sweep by No. 4 Northwood (21-3) over Jarvis Christian (14-9).

The RRAC tournament runs from April 27-30 at LSU-Shreveport in Louisiana.

TC hurler Dennis Neal is second in the RRAC in strikeouts (77), and leads the Steers with a 3.86 ERA.

Steers reliever Houston Creighton comes into the weekend series sporting a 5-0 record, with seven saves on the year and a team-low 2.79 ERA.

Offensive leaders for the Steers include senior outfielder/catcher Jose Serna, who is first on the squad with a .371 batting average, and senior shortstop Agustin Enriquez, who has a team-best 29 RBIs and 17 stolen bases.
